Unposed christening photography – Our Lady of Rosary Parish

Every christening is a special event in a family’s life, and every one deserves to be celebrated and captured. I love photographing christenings because they’re all about love - love of family, love of church, love of friends, love of ceremony. And then sometimes, love of a good party. This christening took place in a location new to me - Our Lady of the Rosary parish church in Kellyville, in the Hills District of Sydney. This was my first time shooting in a Catholic church in the Hills area, and let me tell you - it did not disappoint. Our

Documentary christening photography – Stefan

Little Stefan was christening in the Macedonian Orthodox Church of the Resurrection in Rockdale, and was followed by a stunning reception at Conca D'oro in Riverwood. I'd never shot in this particular Catholic church before, but was delighted to discover that it is charming, moody and beautifully charismatic. Like all Catholic baptisms, this one was full of beautiful ceremony and tradition, but this was a first for me as it was my first time experiencing a christening performed entirely in Macedonian. It was wonderful. My documentary-style photography and emphasis on relaxed unposed portraiture is really well suited for these kind of important cultural

Documentary christening photography – Dimitri in Leichhardt

There's not much like I like better than a gorgeous Greek Orthodox christening in Sydney. This baptism took place at St Gerasimos Greek Orthodox Church in Leichhardt, and the church was filled with family and friends there to celebrate little Dimitri's big day. I just love the love that is evident at christenings - everyone is there for the same purpose, and there are hugs and kisses and cuddles galore. My documentary approach to coverage is ideal for occasions like this, where an eagle eye and a silent foot is a pre-requisite, and where people don't want to be disturbed in the moment or

Catholic christening documentary photography – Ava

Dear little Ava was christened at Holy Name of Mary Church in Hunters Hill, Sydney, on a warm cloudy day. I hadn't photographed inside this particular church before, so man was I impressed with the light and the beauty it contained.  Everything about this christening was gorgeous and classic - the church, the ceremony, the christening gown, the lovely bonnet that went with it (is it just me who thinks we should bring back the bonnet?). It was a true pleasure to document, and if I had my way (hang on, could I have my way?) I'd photograph nothing but christenings ,

Christening shoot – Catholic Christening in Waverley

Recently I photographed the christening of gorgeous little Georgia at Mary Immaculate Church, in Waverley. I really enjoy documenting orthodox and traditional ceremonies such as these because they always come with such a sense of occasion and are filled with such wonderful traditions, and this Catholic ceremony in this spectacular church was no exception. I think my favourite part of the ceremony was when the Georgia's cousin, unable to contain her enthusiasm nor bear the crying of the newly baptised baby any longer, ran up twirling to the steps of the altar to greet her favourite baby. She held her hand, made

Event shoot – Greek Orthodox Christening – Max

I documented the beautiful christening of Max at the Greek Orthodox Parish & Community of “All Saints” in Belmore, Sydney. I've shot in this church several times before and it never fails to be an amazing place to shoot, even with the current restoration work happening inside. I love the ceremony and rituals involved in these beautiful christenings. It's touching to watch the parents and families of these little children become emotional as they go through this rite of passage, too. I have a feeling that photographing christenings, especially in these incredible orthodox churches, is fast becoming a favourite thing of

Event shoot – Greek Orthodox Christening

I wanted to share just a few (of the many hundreds!) of the photographs I took for a client at the christening of their twin babies. Remember these beautiful twins? Their lovely mother Georgie commissioned me to shoot their first big life event at the Greek Orthodox church in Belmore, Sydney. It was a beautiful day, followed by a raucous evening - these people sure know how to party! The Belmore church is awe-inspiring, and taking documentary photos there was a joy. It's so nice to think that these girls will have photographs to look back on when they are
