Unposed newborn photography: Julian takes a bath

Who knew that just taking a bath could capture the fragility, the exquisiteness, the brand-newness of a baby? This is just a small part of a session I did with little baby Julian when he was only twelve days new. His parents, and doting big sister, wanted some very relaxed, unposed portraits at their home, which is a small Wahroonga apartment. The bathroom had no windows or natural light, but only using overhead light? No worries. That's your bathroom - that's where you bath your baby every day. You're going to spend a lot of time in there - let's

Family documentary shoot – Robbie on the farm

This is the third time I have photographed little Robbie and his family - I photographed his amazing mother Bridget while she was pregnant, being loved by her gorgeous horses (you can see it here), and then I photographed Robbie and his parents when he was only a few weeks old (you can see it here!). Horses are a running theme with Bridget's shoots! So when I was called back to photograph Robbie again at fifteen months, in an entirely documentary family photography session, I was so happy. The way I shoot is loose, and relaxed, and pretty much the opposite of in-your-face. Here I

Maternity shoot – Alanna

Alanna called me with a different vision in mind for her maternity portraits - something a bit alternative, a bit raw, a bit rock'n'roll. Shooting exclusively in black and white in her retro South Sydney home, I tried to capture the distinct vibrancy, confidence, and cool beauty of Alanna's quirky style. It was a fun, thoughtful session, and upon leaving I was filled with a sense of happiness and elation, knowing instinctively that we had got some beautiful, representative shots. My favourite shots are the darkest ones, in the intimate setting of the bedroom, in which her seriousness and  introspection

Family shoot – Mel and her boys

I did a session with one of my favourite ladies, Mel, and her sons in their Blue Mountains home a few months ago, and was asked back to do a full family shoot before Christmas. These lovely people have since decided to do a shoot with me every year, in lieu of Christmas presents to each other - how cool is that? These guys are about as laid back as they come, and not ones to pose and smile, so I photographed them in their house for a little while, capturing the small moments of them just doing their own

Maternity shoot – Cee, take one

And now, for something a little different. Pregnancy, fabulous rockabilly style. There isn't anything more kickass than a woman getting it done. This lady is so crafty, she makes people. These photos were taken in Cee's home, with only natural light - no studio or lights required. I loved doing something different, something with a bit of attitude, a bit rock and roll. Got a vision in mind for your portraits, maternity or otherwise? Fire up and contact me, because I am dying to hear from your bad self. Beautiful Cee, you are a rockstar.

Portrait shoot – James and Brad’s engagement

James and Brad are impressive gentlemen whom I have known for over a decade. When they wanted to announce their engagement, I was more than happy to help out with a visit to the Domain, in Sydney, and a stop at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. I mean, how could I possibly say no? Look at them. They're wearing suits, and cufflinks, and matching rings, and they love art, and they host epic dinner parties, and they're handsome, and they kick asses daily in their respective boardrooms, and they love to tell dirty jokes, and they make a

Maternity shoot – Clair at 20 weeks

Remember Ruby, from this post? Well, while I was in Perth photographing her first birthday party, her mother took advantage of my services to perform a little impromptu maternity session. See, she's 20 weeks pregnant, and her daughter has just turned one, so not only will she have her hands insanely full very soon but she's also doing some pretty superhuman things - breastfeeding while pregnant, working full time, and moving cities. That's got to put a dent in your energy levels. So to acknowledge all of life's changes and challenges, big and small, we found a quiet oasis in

Family shoot – Rainy day, don’t go away

Marion and Jonathan, a Canberra-residing military couple, just wanted some nice, intimate, natural, relaxed photos of their family, in a place that they loved, on the one weekend they were in Sydney to have a session with me. That's all. Nothing fancy. Just some photos of them laying in the grass with their ridiculously adorable baby at their favourite northern Sydney picnic spot, Green Point. Not too much to ask. But what do you do when it's raining, and your spot is wet, and your baby doesn't like the rain? You make sure your photographer brings some umbrellas, you hold

Boudoir shoot – Rebecca

I so wish I could show you more of this beautiful woman, but some things must stay between a girl, her husband, and her photographer. Suffice it to say she is stunning. This shoot was a gift from her husband for her 30th birthday (what an excellent present, I might add!). There were pearls, flowers, champagne, silk gowns, lace, and legs that went for miles and miles... all the things classy old-fashioned girls are made of! I absolutely adored doing this shoot in Rebecca's home. It sparked a hunger for beautiful, womanly portraiture that I'm dying to satiate...

Dance portrait shoot – Nush

Beautiful Nush took me out in to the hidden tunnels of Ashfield to capture some glorious urban art... in the form of passionate dance. A portfolio for her and a breath of fresh air for me. I'd love to see some more dancers mixed in with the world, ready to be immortalised on film. Ballerinas in the bush? Breakdancers in the shallow waves of the beach? Tap dancers in the city in the rain? Who's up for it? There's more to come with Nush, including the session I placed her in my studio and enveloped her in clouds of flour...
