Peppers Creek: Tracey and Cathy’s stunning Hunter Valley wedding

Did you know that your wedding can be whatever you want it to be? I mean that. Whatever you want. Tracey and Cathy wanted their wedding to be fun, filled with laughter, and totally them. They rode in victoriously in an amazing stretch Volkswagon Kombi to the Peppers Creek Chapel, in the Hunter Valley. They looked like a million bucks each in crisp white pantsuits, and Tracey rocked an amazing veiled hat. Their bridal party wore white and pink, including full white suits with tails, and carried sentimental items down the aisle. They had their couples portraits together before their ceremony, so that

A cup of tea with mum: pregnancy portraits with a beautiful twist

There's something special about a mother-daughter relationship. And there's no time when that relationship becomes more intimate and more poignant than when you're expecting a child of your own. Suddenly you begin to understand things about your mother that were hidden from you before - you begin to understand her worry, her affection, her self-sacrifice. You also begin to learn that she was just like you, wondering what lay ahead, inexperienced and nervous, but excited beyond belief. And this is why a mother-daughter documentary maternity shoot could be absolutely perfect for you. Embrace this time in your life, as well as

Newborn photos for your second child – Why they’re possibly even MORE meaningful than with your first

There are oft-repeated jokes about second children: that they are parented completely differently to their firstborn siblings. Firstborn children enjoy hand-picked purees for their first food - second children get whatever everyone else is eating chucked on their high chair tray. Firstborn babies have their naps and bowel movements agonised over - as long as second babies sleep occasionally and their nappy isn't dragging on the ground, they're good to go. Secondborn children enjoy a far more relaxed toddlerhood than their firstborn siblings did, since their parents now know that as long as everyone is alive at the end of the day, it's considered a win. Firstborn babies have their photograph

Jasmin + Claudine: Wedding at Sydney Rowing Club

"And love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love; cannot be killed or swept aside.... Now fill the world with music, love, and pride." The modern playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda said it best.   Guys, you know I'm a sap. I fully admit it - I'm a romance-a-holic. There's nothing I like better than to see two people so heady in deep love that they just can't keep their eyes and smiles off each other. So it should come as no surprise to you that when I was honoured to document the union of these two unbelievably beautiful women, I may or may not have cried a little behind the lens -

Unposed wedding photography at The Grounds of Alexandria

One of the sweetest weddings I've attended is contained within this post. Beautiful city location: check! Flower crown: check! Cute wedding separates instead of a long white dress: check! First look: check! Laughter and comfort and generosity of spirit: check! Bride and groom so in love with each other it makes your teeth hurt: CHECK! Meg and Chris were married at The Grounds of Alexandria, in the "Atrium" area. I don't know if you've ever been to The Grounds before, but it's a really magical little place - like a little country gardening village in the middle of Sydney city. It's also

Documentary maternity photography – Mummy and me

You're going to love this. And if you don't, well, I don't want to talk badly to you, but you might be a bit of a monster. Isabel is pregnant, but wanted to do something different. She wasn't worried about lots of photographs of herself and her bump, posed luxuriously and flatteringly (and talking to the parents-t0-be of second babies, I find this is a common theme). Instead, she wanted to focus on her little daughter Rosalind and their relationship together - a relationship which will no doubt change forever when Rosalind's little brother is born. We wanted to celebrate these last

Documentary maternity photography – Emma does yoga

(I photographed this beautiful couple's wedding last year - if you want to see something gorgeous and glamorous and country-chic, you should check out their wedding blog post right here.)   Unposed, documentary photography sessions have a special kind of magic about them - especially at important moments in life. I truly believe in the amazing power of creating beautiful portraits of people that they can instantly connect with, because it brings back real memories and honest emotions. Pregnancy and impending parenthood are unique moments in time, and ones that are lovely to document. Anyone who has seen my work

Unposed photography Sydney – NEW metal prints

Why have you chosen to have a session with me? I’m guessing it’s because you love unposed photography, and you want some beautiful documentary images to capture your life. Or maybe it’s because you know that I’m a dedicated professional with years of experience in photography under my belt, and you like to work with people you can trust. Or maybe it’s because you know that you’re not just going to get digital files thrown at you, to be lost in the vortex of your computer forever, and you love that I give you more than that, with my archival

Unposed wedding – Belinda and Tim at the Powerhouse Museum

Best. Wedding. Ever. I was honoured to be asked to document the moment that Tim and Belinda were married at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney. They're both amazingly smart and accomplished people, and having an unconventional ceremony in a science museum was a perfect fit. They wanted wedding photography that was relaxed, unposed, and as clever as they are. They had a beautiful and heartfelt ceremony in the Powerhouse boardroom, then together we had a great time running around the museum, exploring exhibits they hadn't seen since they were children, laughing and dancing in the halls, and trying out as many of the

Unposed surprise wedding – Maeve and Lorenzo

Maeve and Lorenzo invited me to photograph their wonderful and unusual surprise wedding in the small town of Katoomba, in NSW's Blue Mountains. They had told all of their friends that they were meeting at Hotel Blue for themed murder mystery 40th birthday party for Lorenzo, with their guests none the wiser as to their plans. After guests drove through the thick fog and gathered in the amazing lounge for a "present reveal", Lorenzo coyly placed a flower in his buttonhole, a harpist began to play, and then out walked Maeve in an incredible floor-length gown. I can't begin to tell you

Wedding – Jess and Liz

I just want to lay it out for you all, since I don't want to be a vendor who is vague about the people to whom they offer services - I am absolutely and unequivocally in support of same-sex marriage. I love weddings, I love marriage, and I believe that everyone should have the right to marry the person they love. I'm an equal opportunity vendor - I serve the conservative, the liberal, the straight, the gay, the single, the disabled, the differently-abled, the young, the old, and everything in between. I'm delighted that my straight friends and clients have

Newborn shoot – Baby Z

You might remember Alana from this intimate black and white maternity session I photographed earlier in the year - well, her baby is here, and he is GORGEOUS. While not technically a newborn shoot, since baby Z was three months old at the time of shooting, this was his first foray in front of the professional lens, and as you can see, he ain't bad. Taken at their Oatley home, Alana and her partner wanted black and white images that captured their baby's little details and their natural interactions as a family. Their style is quite unique, but luckily it

Maternity shoot – Alanna

Alanna called me with a different vision in mind for her maternity portraits - something a bit alternative, a bit raw, a bit rock'n'roll. Shooting exclusively in black and white in her retro South Sydney home, I tried to capture the distinct vibrancy, confidence, and cool beauty of Alanna's quirky style. It was a fun, thoughtful session, and upon leaving I was filled with a sense of happiness and elation, knowing instinctively that we had got some beautiful, representative shots. My favourite shots are the darkest ones, in the intimate setting of the bedroom, in which her seriousness and  introspection

Maternity shoot – Cee, take one

And now, for something a little different. Pregnancy, fabulous rockabilly style. There isn't anything more kickass than a woman getting it done. This lady is so crafty, she makes people. These photos were taken in Cee's home, with only natural light - no studio or lights required. I loved doing something different, something with a bit of attitude, a bit rock and roll. Got a vision in mind for your portraits, maternity or otherwise? Fire up and contact me, because I am dying to hear from your bad self. Beautiful Cee, you are a rockstar.
