“And love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love; cannot be killed or swept aside…. Now fill the world with music, love, and pride.” The modern playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda said it best.

Guys, you know I’m a sap. I fully admit it – I’m a romance-a-holic. There’s nothing I like better than to see two people so heady in deep love that they just can’t keep their eyes and smiles off each other. So it should come as no surprise to you that when I was honoured to document the union of these two unbelievably beautiful women, I may or may not have cried a little behind the lens – but it’s okay, no one saw me, I think I got away with it this time.

Jasmin and Claudine sealed their relationship in a gorgeous ceremony at the Sydney Rowing Club in Abbotsford, surrounded by their loving family and friends, on a gorgeous sunny day. When I first met with Claudine and Jasmin, they were emphatic about their desire for a beautiful, stress-free wedding experience, and for their photography to be as candid and authentic as possible, but with only a few “official” portraits to mark the moment. This, of course, was perfect for a documentary photographer like me, who specialises in capturing the unposed beauty of real weddings! So on the day we scheduled ten minutes for a few images of them together before they held hands and walked inside for one of the biggest moments of their lives. Because when you’re that much in love, ten minutes is all you need.

A gorgeous ceremony filled with tears and laughter, a wonderful reception chock full of heartfelt speeches and spontaneous dancing and uproarious mirth, and, finally (and this is the coolest part), a departure on a fast water taxi (that’s right, they zoomed away from their wedding in a freakin’ speedboat). I left them at their hotel in the city, giddy with happiness, starting their new legally-unofficial-but-in-every-other-way married life together.

I would usually fill these blog posts with photographs of the family, the details, the gorgeous location, and everything beautiful – but I want this post to really be about Claudine and Jasmin. I want you to see their real joy, their love, their commitment to each other, and only that. A wedding isn’t about the details, it’s not about the venue, it’s not even about the rest of the family – it’s about the participants. And I think you’ll agree that their love is palpable, and that’s something worth truly understanding and cherishing.
